Privacy Policy

File processing

Files you upload to file2markdown are processed transiently. Some conversions (PDF and Office documents) briefly write your file to a temporary directory on our conversion server; these temporary files are deleted immediately after the conversion finishes, whether it succeeds or fails. We never store your files after conversion, and we do not retain, analyze for our own purposes, or share the content of your files.

OCR for images and scanned PDFs

When you convert an image (JPG, PNG) or a scanned PDF with no text layer, the image content is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to extract the text. This is the only case where file content leaves our servers, and it is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy. Anthropic does not use API data to train its models by default. If you prefer that your content never reaches a third-party API, convert only documents that already contain a text layer.

Email addresses

If you subscribe to our newsletter or create an account, we store your email address to provide the service. You can unsubscribe at any time. We do not sell or share your email with third parties.

Analytics

We use basic, privacy-friendly analytics to understand how people use the site (e.g., page views, conversion counts). We do not use invasive tracking, fingerprinting, or sell data to advertisers.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep the site functional (e.g., session management). We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

Data security

All connections to file2markdown are encrypted via HTTPS. We follow industry-standard practices to protect your data in transit.
